Joanie are awesome fashion flag fliers for showing that clothes for breastfeeding mums can absolutely make a statement, be fun and super stylish! They even have their own dedicated breastfeeding page featuring their stunning, vintage and quirky styles!
We have chosen our favourites from their latest “Greenwich Village Voice” Collection, which we are sharing with you throughout the Summer before they are even launched- click here This new collection is all about “What’s Going On” from french cafes to some laid back jazz, and of course-what to wear!
From What’s Going On to What’s It Like On, we have tried a couple of dresses from the new collection….
Bowery Pinafore Dress
Dungarees and dresses are a top choice for breastfeeding, a definite must for a breastfeeders wardrobe! You can wear so many options underneath and the front bib section is a convenient extra layer for discretion. You can either unclip, unbutton or unbuckle a strap or just pop a boob out the side!
So our “What’s It Like On?” continues with the Bowery Dress…..this new Bowery dress is not just any old pinafore dress but a pinafore with a cute retro heart. First things first, for breastfeeding you can extremely easily just pop a boob out the side, you could drop a strap but you really don’t need to!
Wear with whatever you find the easiest and most comfortable- a breastfeeding specific top, crop top, shirt, vest top, whatever goes! Maybe a little Joanie bomber jacket?! Love a bit of contrasting colour and this vintage style pinafore is perfect for a bit of blue, white and red styling!
The pinafore has shoulder straps which are fully adjustable on the back with little sliding buckles- such a unique detail! The buckles are also perfect for adjusting the fit -as we all have boobs of different shapes and sizes! The back of the pinafore dress is completely open apart from the shoulder straps which attach to the to the high waisted skirt. I just love this open back design such a cool quirky feature! The straps also have a chunky functioning button on the front, belying the cheeky back!
The pinafore also has the Mums’ favourite-yep pockets! With three chunky buttons down the side for unfastening the dress.
The dress is made from a mid/navy blue, cotton fabric that is really excellent quality, it is also cotton lined, you do get excellent quality for the price with Joanie clothing.
The dress is short in length (I am 5ft 5”) but not too short I would worry about it! It can easily be worn with tights and leggings on cooler days and your fave boots! The dress I would say is true to size, the size is not on the over generous side so if you are borderline please check the sizing guidelines on the website.
A great choice for pretty much any day, outdoor sunny days to wet splashy boots kinda days, from cafe and cake days to lunch out and chasing kids kinda days.
This pinafore is not only fab for breastfeeding but it just makes me feel happy and ready for fun days, with its cute & quirky details and brilliant quality, I just need to find out “What’s Going On”…
Barbara Dinosaur Print Button-Through Shirt Dress
The Barbara dress is a bit of a stalwart Joanie style, and I must admit I was a bit unsure of the style and the fit before trying it, it isn’t always easy to tell from the photo what it will feel like on, but now I know why it is so popular- I love it! Joanie dresses are fitted at just all the right places to be the most flattering and accentuate your feminine curves and this dress does it absolutely perfectly.
The full button front of the dress is perfect for nursing, the buttons are large horn-effect and can be easily undone which is great to know if you have a little one desperate for milk! This is a lush dress you can just so happen to breastfeed in!
The bodice section of the dress is lined and has the most fantastically fitted shape, with neat pleats on the boobs, shirring on the shoulders and a little collar with a cute cut at the back. It really is an amazing and flattering fit.
The waist line starts fairly high which helps give the dress it’s vintage feel and continue the flattering flow of the dress. The skirt is partially pleated, hangs perfectly and just floats! There is a self tie fabric belt to complete the dress, the shape of the dress is so lovely it could easily be worn without it too!
The dress is true to size with not much extra room so don’t size down, if you are more borderline and bigger boobed you might consider sizing up. The sleeves are 3/4 with a cute button detail. The length falls to just above my knee (I am 5ft 5, I lost half an inch having two kids!), a comfortable length for chasing kids but looking super swanky too. As for all Joanie dresses it is available in sizes 8-22.
Just when you think it can’t get any better- there are the pockets, who can be without pockets?!
Joanie is not only famed for its vintage styling but also for being fun and I love something a little bit different – this dinosaur print is right up my street! (proving very popular with the littles at home too!)
Just in case I haven’t mentioned it enough already….I really hope you can maybe see just how well and perfectly this dress fits, Joanie really know how to create a sublime fitting dress. I think this dress is a fantastic buy for the quality at £45. Barbara has completely bowled me over!
Millicent Printed Shirt Dress – Black
This dress looks black from a distance but actually has a lush retro flower design. The print includes a rust orange, sage green and white which are great for picking out to accessorise with!
The front is fully buttoned for easy nursing, not forgetting you can leave the top buttons fastened and still get access to the all important boobs. The buttons are small and black, however they are not too fiddly to undo for breastfeeding! The buttons go right to the top of the collar, I love the look with the collar buttoned right up but the dress looks just as good with a few more casually unfastened.
This dress again is just so perfectly crafted to hug in all the right places, with a nipped in waist which falls away to the skirt from just above the tummy so it is flattering, stylish and has that Joanie retro feel.
The dress has a lined skirt which is great for spinning and I did have to try a wee bit of twirling!
I love the little neat black collar and button cuffs. The sleeves are full length with a little button and eye detail. The dress sits just above the knee on my 5ft 5 which is the perfect length for the style of dress. The dress is available in sizes 8-22. I would say the dress is true to size and fits incredibly well, it is not a loose fit so if you are maybe border line sizes and sometimes are a bigger size you may want to potentially size up.
Again this dress has the cherry on the icing on the cake- pockets, I do love a dress with pockets!
I can really see this dress being great moving into Autumn and Winter with boots and biker jacket, woolly scarf, beret…..
You really can’t go wrong with the Millicent style, it is just made to flatter and all the details have been considered to give it a strong vintage feel and make you feel awesome. An awesome example showing stunning outfits can so easily be worn for nursing. I just know I am going to wear and wear and wear this dress. L-O-V-E I-T.
