REVIEW: MOTHERS LOVE FASHION The Breastfeeding Jumpsuit

/, Review, Tandem Nursing/REVIEW: MOTHERS LOVE FASHION The Breastfeeding Jumpsuit

I was so excited to be given the opportunity to review an item of clothing from Mothers Love Fashion. Mum boss, Natalie, like so many of us, became frustrated by the limited clothing choices available for breastfeeding mothers. Whilst on maternity leave, Natalie conceived the idea of a stylish clothing range specifically for breastfeeding mums that wasn’t frumpy or maternity nursing. And so, on 22nd March 2016, Mothers Love Fashion was born.  This was when Natalie’s little girl was just 13 months old!

Mothers Love Fashion’s debut collection consists mainly of breastfeeding jumpsuits and nursing dresses in a variety of colours and prints. After much deliberation, I opted for the breastfeeding jumpsuit in black, as it’s not often you get to wear something breastfeeding friendly without compromising in the style stakes.

As soon as I tried on the jumpsuit, it was love at first try! You know that moment when you meet someone for the first time and know you’re going to get on just great?  Well, this is the feeling I got when I wore the jumpsuit.  The following sizes are available: small (8-10), medium (12-14) and large (16-18).  I’m a 12 on a good day, so opted for a medium and overall, I was very pleased with the fit.  The first thing to stand out was the quality material and tailored cut of the jumpsuit (most unlike the cheaper stretchy nursing material I’m used to!).  These factors combined make for a very flattering silhouette, which probably explains why I’m exceptionally happy in the photograph!

Feeding Access:

The real genius behind the jumpsuit is the additional layer of material up top, which cleverly conceals a stretchier layer beneath with feeding friendly access via boob holes. This effectively creates a one up one down feeding style with lots of coverage, which is great is you are nursing in public for the first time or still gaining confidence doing so, tandem feeding or like me, have a toddler that likes to bare your boobs on your behalf a lot of the time!  Whatever the reason, if it’s extra cleavage coverage you’re after then the breastfeeding jumpsuit most certainly ticks that box.  Although I loved this extra layer and split back detail, for me it needed to be longer. I’m a fairly generous 36FF and was wearing the Freya Pure nursing bra at the time, so wasn’t particularly carrying much extra material up there.  However, the top layer ended up resting too high and I found myself pulling it down quite a lot throughout the day.  It would have been great if the top layer was just a little longer to accommodate bigger busts.

Easy-peasy feeding access

Versatility:

The thing I love most about the breastfeeding jumpsuit though is its versatility: you can dress it down like I did with converse and a teething necklace. It can easily be dressed up with heels and a clutch bag for a more formal occasion, so perfect for christening and wedding season.  The black colour option provides a blank canvas for you to personalise the jumpsuit according to your personal style and occasion.  It also comes in two other colours: a beautiful bold shade of red, and taupe, a caramel-like colour.  I wore the jumpsuit for my Breastfeeding Peer Supporter training session, as we were going out for a family meal afterwards, so I thought it would perfectly bridge the two occasions.

Boob Access:

Although the jumpsuit gets the thumbs up for boob access, the same can’t really be said for toilet access. Us mums struggle to pee alone as it is and the fact that I couldn’t go the loo without my husband accompanying me and helping me with the zip was a bit of drawback though I realise this is the case with jumpsuits in general.

Overall, the breastfeeding jumpsuit is a real game changer. It’s tailored yet comfortable.  Super stylish, yet practical for breastfeeding. Although £65 is a lot of money during maternity leave, I think it’s good investment piece that you could wear again and again and in many different ways for years to come, especially if you plan to let your toddler self-wean! Also, you could definitely continue to wear the jumpsuit long after your breastfeeding journey has concluded, as you would never know it is a breastfeeding jumpsuit; not until the peep holes reveal themselves!
